In just 24 hours the world of Braided Shore will be discoverable by all… But as a backer you can start playing right now, 24hours ahead of public launch. Note: A new Steam thread, sure to be interesting for anyone who will be playing Book of Travels going forward, called ”Known Issues” has been pinned on our Steam forum. There you can read up on what specific issues are being prioritised by our team, as well as server status and tips on what to try when affected by a bug or technical issue.

To get your key just log in to your Backerkit account (recover your survey link here). Once in you’ll find details of the rewards due to you plus some already distributed (if you haven’t already). Your game key will be in that list. Twelve Forms to Go on Adventures With

Dear Travellers,
Here you can find out about our newly completed set of Forms who'll be with you from the outset of Book of Travels' Early Access release. Between them the twelve offer a range or moods and starting points with which to create your own characters. So go ahead, choose a name, pick some personality traits, make a note of your wind affinity and set forth!
The Goodward(wind affinity: eastern) has a pure heart and simple tastes. Harmony and safety are important factors to a Goodward and they enjoy providing such happiness to others. But this is also a character whose curiosity may lead them far from the calm and order they so enjoy. Somewhat eccentric, The Reachant(wind affinity: northern) naturally absorbs the wisdom of the world and is conscientious in their collection of truths and teachings. Usually restless, their journey is one of spirituality and personal betterment, and they enjoy mastering crafts.
The Gleaner(wind affinity: southern) is resourceful and self-reliant - their independence knows no laws and may take a rogue turn. Quick wits and self-sufficiency make The Gleaner a collector of both material and immaterial wealth, but whether they gauge the value of what is amassed is another matter entirely. Tempering strength with kindness and kindness with strength, The Enfolder’s guardianship and servitude never detract from their grace and individuality. Their might comes with the sensitivity of one much invested in their kind (wind affinity: southern).
The Crested and The Ribboned
While The Crested (wind affinity: northern) shows no vanity, they are naturally dignified and uninhabited about their sophisticated ways. Their ease and clear mindedness finds them accomplished in many arts and well placed to succeed in all kinds of company. The Ribboned’s love of home and nature manifests a spirituality that makes profound connections with all things living. Home and community are where The Ribboned is most energised, but their grounded, centred soul means they take both in heart when travelling (wind affinity: northern).
The Larker and The Veiled
Likeability is not The Larker’s goal but merry times are in the offing when The Larker is around. Adventures come in many forms and are rarely serious - so long as leisure and idle times abound, a Larker’s day is as it should be (wind affinity: western).The Veiled(wind affinity: western) is at once inconspicuous and remarkable, holding to the edges of activity where they absorb goings-on from a place of detachment and stillness. But obscurity comes with mystique, the allure of which makes this solitary watcher an enigmatic type with a quiet penchant for power.
The Mirther and The Dimmed
The Mirther(wind affinity: western) is creative and embodies honesty and youth. They echo rural Romantic archetypes such as shepherds, wandering musicians and artists. They are a daydreamer and find much mirth in or out of company. By contrast The Dimmed is an older, wiser type whose light shines less brightly. Their stoic attitude in company does not temper their thirst for exploration, especially when the quest is enlightenment (wind affinity: eastern).
The Moss Walker and The Weatherer
The Mosswalker(wind affinity: eastern) has feet that are deep in the earth and finds magic in all things mundane. They live a relatively ordinary life but their values are wide and true, making them something of an unconventional, Bohemian type. Striding and far from domestic, The Weatherer’s (wind affinity: southern) spirit is forged by exposure to elements literal and metaphorical. Their unequivocal thinking and broad experience finds them well placed in exploration and adventure.

Our EA Roadmap in Detail + Stretch Goals and Rewards Explained

Dear Backers,
On Monday 11th October at 17.00 UCT, the project that you put your faith, money and heart into back in 2019 launches. Backers, however, will get their game keys 24 hours ahead (same time but on Sunday 10th October). We want you to be there first just as you’ve been here with us from the very start of this project.
While the road from there to here has been longer than we had hoped, it’s but a few footsteps in comparison to the long adventures ahead of us, a short prologue to a story that will endure and deepen in ways we can’t yet know.

DLC Delivered
For those who pledged Nomad and above, you should now have codes for digital artwork in your Backerkit account. So far these include all 12 Form portraits in HD and a set of wallpapers for devices and social media.
Starting Out in EA
Skills and items for earlybirds will all be in your knapsack when you set out on day one of Early Access, these are the Lantern of the Early Light, Ring of Cycles, Reveal Day Cycle skill, Call of the Umber Yu skill. All backers will be equipped with the the Cosy Nap skill, and the skill to portal to Travellers’ Meadow and use the Coterie Brew. Secret Cultists will find the Fan of the Hidden already in their knapsack. Spot Flik as she slips in and out of the shadows and also visit Travellers’ Meadow where every blue Night Flower represents a backer. We hope you enjoy these with a heart full of pride and belonging!

Today the world that you helped to build is ready to greet you... We are delighted to inform you that your game key is now in your Backerkit account!
Please don’t share… yet!
In order to build the maximum momentum that we need to make the game a success, we kindly ask you NOT TO SHARE screenshots, reviews, or any details of your experience beyond our private channels (namely Discord Book of Travels Beta Channel). We cannot stress how much it means to us that you keep your game play between us until the day before launch day on October 10th – this game has been nearly five years in the making, the manner and mood of its public debut matter greatly to us.
...But please invite your friends!
If you know anyone you think would love to join you in the first steps into a new and magical world, invite them along! We’d love to get as many as we can to celebrate and help support us as we set sail – this is a moment that comes rarely in life and we hope to feel the warmth of sharing between friends far and wide!
Accessing Book of Travels
You’ll find the Book of Travels Beta Steam key on BackerKit. Just log in using the same email as you used in Kickstarter (and complete the survey if you haven't yet done that) and click the ”Get Your Digital Downloads” button. (If you lost your survey link, you can recover it here). If you haven’t used Steam before, you can download it here: https://store.steampowered.com/about Here is Steam’s guide on how to activate your key.
The beta is available for Windows (32-bit and 64-bit), OSX (64bit), and Linux (64bit). If you have several options, the best would be your highest performing Windows computer. We will of course work to fix issues with optimization, and platform specific issues for OSX and Linux, but that will be a lesser priority than general issues for the game. All aspect ratios and screen sizes should work now. Please do report if you’re having issues with this! Please note that controller support is still something that would be added in the future and is not a priority at the moment.
